  1. In 1988, a TV special was aired celebrating Mickey Mouse’s 60th birthday. it featured Mickey visiting several ’80s TV locations, including Cheers. Does this mean that essentially ALL OF DISNEY’S ANIMATED CANON exists solely in Tommy’s mind? For that matter, the special also featured Roger Rabbit, which would mean that all of the characters featured in his movie (the Looney Tunes, Droopy, Betty Boop, the lot of ’em) are all part of Tommy’s delusion? o.O

    • When we first started this we made a couple of rules to keep us sane. One was no cartoons. There are cartoons we’d like to include (namely The Simpsons) but as you see cartoons are a spiraling mess. The other is no movies. So that would exclude the Roger Rabbit connection as well.
But those are just our rules to keep our own sanity. Who knows what the real bounds of the Tommy Westphall Universe are?

  2. Running Wilde and Community should be added to the list, via Arrested Development. Bluth Company made Steve and Fa’ad’s nightclub in one episode of Running Wilde, and the episode of Community where Britta and Annie oil fight had the Wilde Oil logo on the model oil thingie – I don’t know what it’s called. Either way, Community’s connected to Running Wilde, Running Wilde is connected to Arrested Development, and AD is already in the Westphall universe.

  3. Shane

I think NIGHT COURT can be added to list via CHEERS. If this is the case, Than the Warner Brothers LOONY TUNES can be connected, because the Roadrunner and Wile E Coyote had appeared as themselves on NIGHT COURT. The implications are staggering .

  4. Brigid

Lost is on the list so therefore Once Upon a Time should be as well. Once Upon a Time definitely takes place in the same universe as Lost due to a fictional Scotch Whisky called MacCutcheon. It first appears in the episode the Shepard. Therefore Once Upon a Time in Wonderland also takes place in the same universe.

  5. John K.

Haven hints that one of the characters (Agent Howard) was the FBI agent who trained Fox Mulder on X-Files, so Haven would go on the list. Not sure if you guys count that, though, since they don’t openly say it.

    • Greg

Isn’t Haven an adaptation of a Stephen King novel that takes place in Maine? That connects it to pretty much every other Stephen King work — The Dead Zone (tv show), IT (television miniseries), The Shining (television miniseries), etc.

      lol, I love this!

  6. Hallie Ervin

The world of Sherlock Holmes needs to be added, within the Star Trek universe, Spock directly quotes Sherlock Holmes saying that the quote comes from one of his ancestors. So add in Sherlock Holmes universe with all of its connections.

Also you need to add NCIS: New Orleans, which is premiering at the end of this month.

A big question is if South Park can be linked to the universe? Cuz if it can be, then you have to hunt for alot of new stuff.

    • Jason

Spock’s quote from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country was “An ancestor of mine maintained that if you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains – however improbable – must be the truth.” Nicholas Meyer, the film’s writer and also author of a couple of Sherlock Holmes novels, wanted to imply that Spock was related to Holmes. This, however, wouldn’t make sense within the continuity of Star Trek, seeing as how the world of Sherlock Holmes is explicitly fictional in several episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Since Spock never said it was Holmes, the next logical ancestor he could have been referring to would be the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

      • Doctor Who is in the tommy westphall universe too, in the second season and second episode of sherlock, the TARDIS appearances in one scene

  7. girl meets world and boys meet world are in the same universe so therefor they are both here since boy meets world is

  8. Dsantia

Why isn’t Once Upon a Time on this list? Lost is on the list, and Once Upon A Time shares a lot of the same fictional products as Lost (Apollo candy bars, Maccutchin whiskey). Also, Scrubs had Apollo candy bars. Also on scrubs, several of the actors from St Elsewhere were on one episode; however, I don’t recall if they were playing their elsewhere characters, or completely different ones.

  9. You have Power Rangers listed as “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993-1996)”; all Power Rangers series have a shared universe (except RPM, which still had a crossover as an alternate universe), so they should either be listed individually, or together with the year (1993-????).
There was also a crossover between Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Masked Rider.

  11. How about any show that has used Let’s Potato Chips. They’ve been in Arrested Development, so since that is on the List, then add any other show they’ve been on.

  12. Not sure if the universe crosses into film spin offs, but Star Wars: The Clone Wars and should be on the list. In the 2009 Star Trek film by J. J. Abrams R2-D2 is seen in the wreckage of ships that were destroyed above Vulcan. R2 is in the Star Wars prequels which resulted in the spin off Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Again, I don’t know if we’re accepting movie continuity into Tommy’s universe but I thought it was nifty all the same.

  13. My friend Natasha has just informed me of this:

Which means Gracepoint and Broadchurch can be added.

  14. additions? Gracepoint/Broadchurch

my friend, Jack in New Zealand and myself in Germany are mad tv buffs. We just spent two hours this morning looking for new connections – think we\’ve found some…Gracepoint and Broadchurch through David Tennant and Easter Eggs. Is there an updated version of the graphic?

The Walking Dead should also be on the list. There are some references to Breaking Bad on The Walking Dead, including the blue meth. It is also heavily implied in season 4 that Jesse Pinkman was an associate of Merle’s.

  18. stan

hawaii five-o once referenced a criminal from arrow, the producer of arrow confirmed it, bringing arrow, the flash, and gotham into this universe.

  19. The Walking Dead should be here, and that would make a whole lot a of people happy. In The Walking Dead in season 2, when Daryl pulls out Merle’s stash of pills, Blue Meth is seen on the bottom of the bag, which is what Heisenberg cooks in Breaking Bad, which is on this list too. There are countless other connections too that could include this show. Morley cigarettes are seen smoked by Dale and Daryl on the show too, Morley also appears on Breaking Bad, The X-Files, and many other shows. The Big Bang Theory should be included too. There has been minor crossovers with The Big Bang Theory and Two And A Half Men, which is on the list too, Charlie from TAAHM made a cameo on TBBT. There is also the fictional Playpen magazines that appear on The X-Files, Millennium, Special Ops Force, The Pretender, That Girl, Grosse Pointe, Renegade, Pacific Blue, 3rd Rock From The Sun, Married With Children, That 70s Show, CSI, Rules Of Engagement, Lost, Supernatural, In Case Of Emergency, Kyle XY Thus all of these shows are connected and are all in the same universe, atleast i consider them so.

Hello. Here are a few more additions for you:
NCIS spun off a second series called NCIS: New Orleans.
NCIS: Los Angeles crossed with Scorpion.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit crossed with Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. (Chicago Fire twice)

Also, even though you have a rule against the addition of films, you can’t have the Weylan-Yutani cross without where it originated, the film Alien. Joss Whedon wouldn’t have brought Weylan-Yutani in without his participation in the film Alien: Reseurrection. With Alien and its sequels and prequels being in, you also get Alien vs. Predator and the Predator series (with the exception of Predators since the film maker refused to take Alien vs. Predator into account with his story).

  21. Arron

Eastenders (BBC TV) crossed over with Doctor Who for a special charity episode in the 90’s.

  22. Jason

Webster would also go on this list, seeing as how the final episode of the series was a crossover with Star Trek: The Next Generation. http://trekcore.com/blog/2015/03/tng-webster-crossover/

  23. Jason

The episode probably was just a dream, since he was yelling “Beam me up, Scotty!” in a flashback (well, the whole Tommy Westphall universe is technically a dream of sorts).

I had heard about Tommy’s Universe before, but never bothered looking it up until a recently. I take it the connections are more like “six degrees of separation” because a lot of these show don’t make sense to be in the same continuity. For example, Star Trek is a fictional TV series within the continuities of That 70’s Show, Friends, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Knight Rider, Red Dwarf, and Doctor Who. None of the “present day” shows set after 1999 could take place in the same continuity as Space:1999 because their technology isn’t as advance and the moon is still orbiting Earth.

Also, an interesting note about Family Matters. While Steve Urkel did appear on both Full House and Step by Step, Full House is a fictional TV series in Step by Step’s continuity. In one of the episodes, Cody Lambert was watching TV and was shocked to discover that little Michelle from Full House was actually two people.

  24. In a recent episode of “Castle” Rick Castle ended up in an alternative reality, where it was mentioned he had met detective McNulty – also a name of the main character in “The Wire”. Now, this may be a different McNulty detective, since a) “The Wire” takes place in Baltimore, not NY and b) that McNulty is in drugs, not homicide, and also c) everything happened in an alternate universe anyway, but does this mean “Castle” also belongs to the Tommy Westphall universe?

  25. Al

Another one to put on the list would be Love American Style since Happy Days was a spin off of that show.

  26. Scrubs should be in there, and by association Cougar Town. The St Elsewhere cast guest stared as the same characters in a Scrubs episode.

Better Off Ted, Season 2 Episode 5, A Dalek is in plain view in the Viridian basement.

  29. Jefferson Smith

    You forgot Trapper John MD

  30. The X-Files had a COPS crossover, Season 7 Ep 12. COPS chronicles real life cops, which means that all of what we consider reality is also part of Tommy’s Universe!

  31. I was just watching Toy Story, and the tool box that traps Woody under the milk crate in Sid’s room says “Binford Tools” on it. If it is indeed a binford tools tool box then Toy Story takes place inside the Home Improvement universe. Which means it part of the TW universe. AND since Toy Story and every other Pixar movie allegedly take place inside the same universe, those would also be part of TWU.

  33. How can Murphy Brown and Seinfeld both be on this list? Murphy Brown is a show in the Seinfeld universe as Kramer once landed a role on the show.

  34. Hudson University, the fictional college in the Land & Order universe, was visited by Castle and Beckett on an episode of “Castle” we watched a couple years back. So Castle should be added to the snowglobe. Here are other shows where Hudson also shows up:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hudson_University

  35. If I remember correctly, Walter Bishop in Fringe references knowing Dr. Jacoby from Twin Peaks, which would pull in that show (and any others which are implied to belong to that show’s universe)

  36. Steve

Don’t forget the Walking Dead… Better Call Saul is tied in with Breaking Bad (as a prequel). Walking Dead is tied to Breaking Bad by a bag of blue meth belonging to one of the characters very early in the show.

  37. In 2.12 Nightshifter of supernatural, one of the characters holds up a magazine and on the cover is a cyberman from doctor who, in a few seasons later, a character uses the alias “Amy Pond”, so you should really add supernatural

  39. Is there a more thoroughly and recently updated list of “Tommy Westphall universe” shows?

In terms of Rasen A’s suggestions above, I’m not sure if that should be enough to include Supernatural. But I actually recently found out that Supernatural and X-Files both refer to the same (arguable) fictional rental car company.

    http://fictionalcompanies.wikia.com/wiki/Lariat_Rent-A-Car

Also another connection: Apparently Star Trek: Voyager made a reference to “The West Wing” so arguably they are in one universe as well.

    http://io9.com/5987778/that-time-star-trek-voyager-killed-off-the-cast-of-the-west-wing

Also Morley’s apparently made an appearance on “The Strain” so they are in too…..

Also Let’s Potato Ships and Heisler Beer also appear on The Vampire Diaries.

Take that in for a sec… The West Wing and 24 are both in the same universe!?!?! . And also the Buffyverse and Supernatural are radically different. But they coexist, along with Vampire Diaries, and The Strain.

I don’t know if Kindred: The Embraced has a connection but even if it doesn’t, the Tommy Westphall universe still would have to contain different lineages of vampires and werewolves with very different traits.

    • Awesome, the only problem with supernatural is that on the show they heavly reference other tv shows as being a tv show within its universe, The x files, buffy, star trek, and other shows have been mentioned on supernatural as tv shows

      • That just means that Buffy, Star Trek, The Wire, X-Files, etc. are like the Supernatural books (written by Carver Edlund) and the 9th Wonder Comic books (on Heroes). So there must be a surprisingly large number of books, tv shows, comic books where are consumed as fiction but are actually real.

  40. Doug Shoemaker

I’m glad you didn’t include Saturday morning cartoons and motion picture adaptions.

  41. The Walking Dead should be included somehow but it would still be difficult to explain, how it fits in the timeline of where the apocalypse actually began, like, a past zombie apocalypse hasn’t been mentioned in the future on star trek

    • We’re not too concerned about how it would work, just that there’s a connection. I don’t think The X-Files being directly connected to Homicide makes any sense either.
